20 YEARS OF LAKE HOME ECONOMICS
I began selling lake homes in Jefferson County in 1989. During the early 1990's you could buy a cute lakefront home in one of the Jeff. Co. lakes for $70K. Since then, many of these homes have had total re-do's or were simply torn down & then re-built as the lots were worth more than the original weekend homes. New & higher dollar lakefront homes went into the lake & prices continued up...

Move along to 2009! The lake homes this year are still selling at increased prices you might only wish your stocks & other investments were hitting!
A lakefront home purchased at $130K only six years ago in Lk. Tishomingo, on a single 50' lot with some updates, sold at $239K in April 2009. This would not only hold your investment, make you money, but gives your family a great weekend getaway!
Quite simply, a developer can't afford to buy up 500 acres of land, within an hour of St. Louis & put in a lake of over 100 acres with all the governmental regulations involved. The lakes that are here are the only ones that will probably ever be here!
If you & your family like to ski, swim & fish... These lakes might be the place for you! It might be Lake Tishomingo, Lake Wauwanoka, the lakes of Raintree, Summerset or Briarwood... But, Jefferson County has the lake for you!
Why do I love Jefferson County lakes? Most are within an hour of St. Louis & make a great weekend or fulltime home, less than a half hour from west or south county! This sure beats a 3 hr. drive & the traffic to Lake of the Ozarks! This may also be a lot more fun for the family & perhaps a better long term investment than the stock market.
